Main Article Content
Abstract
This study investigates the influence of private school practices on the cultural values system of lower primary school pupils in Afijio Local Government. Using a mixed-methods approach, the researchers collected data from 300 pupils and 20 teachers from five private schools in the area. Our findings indicate that private school practices significantly shape the cultural values system of pupils, with a strong emphasis on individualism, competition, and materialism. We also found that these values often conflict with the traditional cultural values of the community, leading to cultural discontinuity and potential socialization challenges. Our study highlights the need for private schools to incorporate culturally responsive practices that promote the preservation of traditional cultural values.
