INFLUENCE OF EDUCATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURES ON STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS WITHIN YENAGOA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF BAYELSA STATE

Abstract

This study investigated the influence of educational infrastructures on learners’ performance in the public schools in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The researcher had observed with dismay the extent of decay of these educational infrastructures within the public school system and sought to determine the impact they may have on the attainment of learning objectives. The researcher designed a Questionnaire titled Educational Infrastructures and its Impact on learners’ Performance questionnaire (ELLSPQ) to determine the extent of the availability of these infrastructures and the extent of their impact on the learners’ performance. They researcher also used the interview and observation techniques. At the end, only 89 copies of the questionnaire out of the 250 copies that were distributed were returned. The chi – square was used as the method of analysis and the results of the analysis of the data obtained showed that there is indeed a significant relationship between educational infrastructures and learners’ performance. The null hypotheses was rejected and its alternative accepted. The researcher recommends that immediate action be taken, not just by the government alone, but also by all stakeholders, to arrest the decay of our educational infrastructures that is threatening to cripple our education system.
