ASSESSING THE E-RESOURCES AMONG LIBRARIANS AND ITS USE IN SOME SELECTED COLLEGES OF EDUCATION LIBRARIES IN NORTH-EASTERN, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study surveyed the assessing of e-resources among librarians and its use in some selected colleges of education libraries in north eastern, Nigeria. Four objectives were raised to investigate the level of ICT skills among librarians and its use in some selected colleges of education libraries in north east Nigeria, in the use of e-resources, to examine how librarians access e-resources in some selected colleges of education libraries in north east Nigeria, face by librarians in use of e-resources in some selected colleges of education libraries in north east Nigeria. Using a survey research design and random sampling technique, with a well standard structured questionnaire, a data was collected from 90 librarians or respondents comprising all users or librarians that constituted sample for the research. The research reveals that their skills in computer operations is very low among librarians in some selected colleges of education libraries in north eastern Nigeria, it was also reveals that they don’t have knowledge of online searching styles among librarians in some selected colleges of education libraries in north eastern Nigeria, this study also discovered that they have problems of network and connectivity in some selected colleges of education libraries in north eastern Nigeria and it was also reveals that majority of respondents or among librarians answered no they don’t use e-resources in their libraries in some selected colleges of education libraries in north eastern Nigeria.it was recommended that  Alternative sources of network and connectivity should be put in place in some selected colleges of education libraries in north eastern Nigeria so that librarians can access e- resources at their need, the colleges of education libraries management should be training and re-training of librarians on how to operate computer effectively to update users on new arrivals of e- resources, the Libraries management in some selected colleges of education libraries in north eastern Nigeria should automate their libraries and services to create an enabling environment in order to access e-resources.
