Abstract

The study examined the Relationship Between Self-Efficacy, Motivation, Academic Stress and Performance in Chemistry Among Secondary School Students in Rimi Zonal Education Quality Assurance, Katsina State, Nigeria. The study developed six objectives which are to find out the relationship between self-efficacy and academic performance among chemistry Students in Rimi Zonal Education Quality Assurance, answered six research questions and tested six research hypotheses. The study adopted correlation research design. The population of the study comprised Two thousand four hundred and thirty-four (2434) in Rimi Zonal Education Quality Assurance. Six (6) schools were used out of the total population in each school with a sample size of three hundred and twenty-two (322) students by using Research Advisor (2006). Validated instruments namely: Self-efficacy Questionnaire (SEQ), Motivation Questionnaire (MQ) and Academic Stress Inventories Questionnaire (ASIQ). The reliability coefficient of the instruments was obtained using Cronbach Alpha method and obtained at 0.87, 0.79 and 0.89. The Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation, while null hypotheses were tested by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Independent Sample t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The major findings revealed that there is significant relationship exist between self-efficacy and academic performance of chemistry students, significant relationship was found between motivation and students’ academic performance of chemistry students in senior secondary, significant relationship exist between academic stress and students’ academic performance of chemistry students, the opinions of respondents on the relationship of self-efficacy between Male and Female among senior secondary School students is not differ significantly, there is no significant difference in the opinions of respondents on the relationship of motivation between Male and Female among senior secondary School students in Rimi Zonal education quality assurance and also, there is no significant difference in the opinions of respondents on the relationship of academic stress between Male and Female senior secondary School students in Rimi Zonal education quality assurance. Based on this study, the study recommended that educational psychologists should organize seminars and workshops to train and support groups of people, providing appropriate counseling assistance and Students should be guided generally as they have clear correlation on improving their academic performance.
