ACADEMIC STAFF PERCEPTION OF THE APPLICATION OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES IN PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN ABUJA, NIGERIA

Abstract
The study investigated the application of digital technologies in the management of human resources in private universities in Abuja, Nigeria. The design used for this study was the cross-sectional survey research design. The total population of the study consisted of 1,370 academic staff. The sample size of the study constituted 302 respondents. The researchers’ self-developed questionnaire’ tagged ‘Application of Digital Technologies on Human Resources Management in Private Universities (ADTHRMPU)’ was used for data collection. The instrument was duly validated and it yielded 0.80 as the validity index while the internal consistency of the instrument was 0.79. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the t-test statistical method was employed to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study indicated that the academic staff perception of the application of biometric system on the management of human resources in private universities in Abuja is positive and there is a positive perception of the application of closed-circuit television on the management of human resources in private universities in Abuja by the academic staff. It was recommended that to avoid the rejection of the use of digital technologies in private universities by the staff, the Vice-chancellors and the entire management team ofthe private universities in Abuja should enlighten the staff to understand that the use of biometry system to monitor their attendance is not to witch-hunt them but to enhance the efficient management of the university system.
