EFFECT OF REALIA AND PICTURES ON BIOLOGY STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN KATSINA ZONAL EDUCATION QUALITY ASSURANCE, KATSINA STATE NIGERIA

Abstract
This study investigated the Effect of Realia and Pictures on Biology Students’ Academic Performance in Secondary Schools of Katsina Zonal Education Quality Assurance. Two research objectives formulated were answered by two research questions, and null hypothesis Tested, at 0.05 level of significance. The research design for the study was quasi-experimental consist of three groups; Realia, Pictures and control groups that were randomly selected from 24 secondary schools in Katsina Zonal Education Quality Assurance and adapted pretest, posttest non-Equivalent experimental control group design. The adapted biology performance test (BPT) was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and other professionals in the Department of Biology and Science education. Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of 0.71 was Obtained as the reliability coefficient of the research instrument. The data collected were analyzed by using descriptive statistics (Mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Independent t-test was used for testing the null hypotheses formulated. The findings from this study revealed there is Significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of academic performance of the students exposed to Realia and Pictures where the Realia and Picture groups significantly performed better than the control groups. The study concluded, the students who were taught using Realia and Pictures elevates student learning and performance of the students in the Control group. It was recommended among others that; teachers should be supervised to ensure frequent use of Realia and Pictures in their day-to-day teaching exercise.
