Main Article Content
Abstract
The Nigerian leather industry holds significant potential for thriving in local markets. This study assesses the influence of quality control measures on the competitiveness of Nigerian leather goods in local markets, highlighting their importance in ensuring product acceptability and sustained market relevance. A survey research design was adopted, employing purposive and simple random sampling techniques. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire titled “Quality Control Measures on the Competitiveness of Nigerian Leather Goods in Local Markets” (QCMCNLG-LM), developed through an extensive review of related literature. The instrument utilized a 4-point Likert scale ranging from Strongly Agree (4) to Strongly Disagree (1) and achieved a reliability coefficient of 0.791 using the Cronbach alpha formula. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were employed for data analysis, with hypotheses tested at a 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed a significant positive influence of quality control measures on the competitiveness of Nigerian leather goods in local markets. The study emphasizes the need for collaborative efforts by the Nigerian government, industry stakeholders, and private enterprises to strengthen infrastructure, provide specialized training, and ensure adherence to quality standards. These actions are vital for enhancing the competitiveness and market share of Nigeria’s leather goods in local contexts.
