TAX AGGRESSIVENESS AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCES OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA

Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the effect of tax aggressiveness of corporate financial performances of financial companies listed in Nigeria group exchange. Data were extracted from the financial reports downloaded from websites of Nigeria group exchange in respect of the selected companies. The dependent variable proxy with return on equity was financial statements while the independent variable proxy with effective tax rate was tax aggressiveness. The study discovered a negative and significant effect of tax aggressiveness on return on equity with (t-test -0.472, p-value 0.02). The study recommended that organization should seek to expand their assets base rather involving in aggressive tax policy that may lead to legal action thereby destroying the reputations of the companies.
