AI-DRIVEN VOCATIONAL TRAINING: BRIDGING SKILL GAPS AMONG ADULT LEARNERS IN BAYELSA STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into vocational training presents a dynamic solution to addressing persistent skill gaps among adult learners in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. This study investigates the effectiveness of AI-driven vocational training in enhancing skills acquisition, employability, and lifelong learning using a qualitative research design that combines literature studies and in-depth interviews. Through a critical review of relevant academic sources and interviews with selected adult learners, educators, and vocational training providers, the study identifies the prevailing skill gaps and explores how AI technologies can address them through personalized and adaptive learning. It further examines the key challenges to implementation, including infrastructural limitations, low digital literacy, and high technology costs, while highlighting viable strategies such as public-private partnerships, digital literacy initiatives, and improved internet access. The findings offer practical insights for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders on optimizing AI-driven vocational training to foster workforce development and economic empowerment in Bayelsa State.
