REALISM: A FEASIBLE AND REASONABLE SOLUTION TO NIGERIA’S INSECURITY PROBLEMS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Struggle, violence, and revolution are inherent in human nature, while dialogue is a key method for resolving conflicts in human society. The threat of kidnapping, terrorism, tribal agitation, the narrow-minded struggle for power, and corruption in various places of trust in Nigeria have informed the minds of Nigerian scholars from multiple disciplines towards seeking solutions to reduce these happenings and possibly bring them to the barest minimum. Some philosophers and scholars of crisis resolution across the globe have insisted that violence amplifies rather than solves any problem. On the contrary, realists’ philosophers and scholars also argued that for peace to reign, violence must beget violence. Basic to the fundamental principle of the realists is the resolve that human nature is characterised by conflict, struggle, and competition and that the world is a combat zone, where only the fittest survive. Since both opinions have advantages and disadvantages, which one could be more practicable and sensible in resolving Nigeria’s insecurity problems? This article, argues that ‘realism’ could be more reasonable and feasible in resolving the insecurity problems in Nigeria. The theoretical method was employed where secondary data is the source of information. The article recommended a rational violent revolution to resolve the present crisis-ridden Nigeria to a stable and peaceful nation.
