Abstract

Since joining the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in 2016, Nigeria has made substantial progress in strengthening transparency, accountability, citizen engagement, and the use of technology in governance. This paper reviews the major activities and achievements of the OGP in Nigeria from 2016 to the present, structured under its four thematic pillars: Transparency, Accountability, Citizen Participation, and Technology/Innovation. By analyzing each pillar in the context of Nigeria’s three completed National Action Plans and the ongoing development of the fourth, the paper illustrates how the OGP framework has helped in expanding civic space and improve service delivery. The study also highlights Nigeria’s efforts to co-create local solutions to local governance challenges through inclusive reforms and policy innovations. The paper concludes by emphasizing the importance of sustaining these gains in order to institutionalize good governance across all levels of government.
