Abstract

Intrusion detection and protection system are critical components of modern cybersecurity frameworks, designed to detect, prevent and respond to unauthorized access and malicious activities within a network or system. This research work explores the design, functionality and effectiveness of IDPS, emphasizing its dual role in both intrusion detection and proactive protection. The system leverages a combination of signature-based, anomaly-based and heuristic detection methods to identify known and emerging threats in a real time. Advanced machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence enhance the systems capability to predict and adapt to evolving attacks patterns, reducing false positives and improving detection accuracy. Integration with other security mechanisms such as firewalls and endpoint protection to ensure a robust defense against complex, multi-vector attacks. Key challenges addressed include managing high volumes of networks traffic, maintaining low latency and ensuring scalability across diverse IT environments, the study concludes with evaluation of IDPS in various real-world scenarios, highlighting its effectiveness in mitigating cyber threats and its role in securing modern digital infrastructures.
