Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper attempts to examine the performance of the Nigerian manufacturing sub-sector with the view to finding the problems responsible for the poor performance of the sub sector. The problems that impede the growth of sub sector are analysed. From the 80s to date, many problems were found to be responsible for the low performance of the manufacturing sub sector. Some of these problems are over dependence on oil for foreign exchange earnings, poor state of power supply, poor state infrastructure, shortage of skilled labour, lack of adequate financial resources and high interest rate, and so on. The paper concludes that for Nigeria to transform the sub sector to desired level for economic development, the policy makers must work towards resolving all the problems.
