Abstract

This study examined the Effect of four Modes Application Techniques school (4MAT) on Performance and Retention in Trigonometry, Among Senior Secondary School Students in Katsina Zonal Education Quality Assurance four objectives, four research Questions and four research hypotheses were developed. The general objective of the study was to find the Effect of Four Modes Application Techniques (4MAT) on Performance, and Retention in Trigonometry, among senior secondary school SS II students. The study adopted the pre-test posttest quasi experimental design. The population of the study comprised of 17572 SS II Trigonometry students from twenty-five public secondary schools in Katsina Zonal Education Quality Assurance. Two schools were randomly selected and intact classes were used in each school with a sample size of 131 students. The validated instruments are Trigonometry Performance test (TPT) were used by the researcher for data collection. The reliability of the TPT were 0.861. Research questions are what is the difference in the mean performance scores of students taught Trigonometry using 4MAT and those taught using lecture methods were answered using mean and standard deviation, while null hypotheses like there is no significant difference in the mean academic performance scores of students taught Trigonometry using 4MAT and those taught using lecture methods were tested at p<0.05 level of significance using t-test independent. The major findings revealed that there was positive attitudinal change towards Trigonometry students exposed to 4MAT than that of their counterparts who were taught using lecture method, skills acquired and academic performance of students exposed to 4MAT were significantly higher than those of their counterparts who were taught using lecture method.
