STUDY ON EFFECTS OF Pseudomonas syringea Pv. Helianthi ON DISEASE AND AGRONOMIC CHARACTERS OF SOME SUNFLOWER GENOTYPES IN MUBI, ADAMAWA STATE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Field study was carried out during the 2024 cropping season at the Teaching and Research Farm of Department of Agricultural Technology, Federal Polytechnic Mubi, to determine the effects of bacterial leaf spot disease on disease and growth characters of some sunflower genotypes inoculated with 10-7cfu/mg suspension of the pathogen and also to identify the most tolerant and susceptible genotype(s) to the disease. Result showed SAMSUM- 4 records the least incidence (43.91%) and severity (29.80%) of the disease, had the highest (74.08%) plant establishment, largest flower heads (15.25cm), heavier seed weights (64.52g) as while as the highest sunflower yield of 1,390.47kg/ha-1 respectively. Gombe Local had the highest disease incidence of 83.11% while Biu local had highest disease severity of 57.25%. Similarly, Biu local recorded the least seed weight (39.50g) and the lowest yield of 538.61kg/ha-1 respectively.. At the end of the study, all the SAMSUN genotypes were found to be more to the disease than the other local genotypes by recording the higher figures on all the characters under investigation.
